The Goodness – The Best Feeling in Golf…Coaching

Some days as a coach you have the feeling that you can’t possibly make any difference at all. It seems that you just don’t have it.

Other days you feel like you can.

This past weekend I had the privilege of having the best feeling in golf coaching – seeing the golfer’s smile.

Two in particular stood out to me. NE who has been playing for only 3 months and ST who hasn’t played in over a year.

Check this out from NE. The relationship between his left arm and club shaft is awesome and OMG on the stability of the club face. Seeing the ball fly straight without deviation was incredible. I’m not blowing smoke up my own arse – the players have to swing the club – but that was cool.

Then there was ST who is an accomplished sportsman and enormously strong but stayed on his right side. Once we got him to get through it with the simplest of drills – he added 30 yards! Interestingly this whole lesson was done on course. By the way the drill was to pretend there was a smiley face on the bottom of his right shoe. As he swung through he was to show me the smiley face. 🙂

Yeah man the best feeling in golf coaching is not a full lesson book. It’s not making heaps of money. It’s not having access to all the cool shit.

It’s seeing the look of pure excitement of your players’ faces. The realisation that they can do it and do it well. Having a full lesson book etc is great but the feeling a coach gets from seeing the player get it is second to none.
