The man at the coffee shop was drowning in data—receipts, refunds, programming the till. It’s a lot like golf these days. With so much data at our fingertips, it’s easy to get lost in it all. Swing speed, launch angle, spin rate, carry distance… the list goes on.
But does all that information really help beginners? More often than not, it creates paralysis by analysis. Instead of focusing on hitting the ball, you’re stuck thinking about the numbers. My advice? Filter out the noise.
For beginners, the best metrics are simple ones: Did you hit the ball? Did it go where you wanted it to? Start there. As you improve, you can start diving into the data. But in the beginning, less is definitely more. Keep it simple, and you’ll enjoy the game so much more.
