Golf Quick Fixes Are Bad….MMM’Kay

Everywhere you turn (on social media) there’s an ad for fixing your slice in one swing or five swings or whatever. The latest driver will add 17.66666683543 yards. The latest irons will be 5.879814573875% more accurate. Fuck, man, if we had bought the latest driver and irons every year for the last 20 years we’d…

True, there is no substitute for having clubs that fit your swing but there is a ceiling in how far and accurate the clubs themselves will be.

Similarly with swing changes. There isn’t a magic pill you can take to make golf easier.

I have been listening to a podcast called The Golf Coach Podcast with Toby McGeachie. He interviews great golf coaches from Australia and all over the world about how the do their things. One of the agreed points is that there aren’t any quick fixes. You may hit better after a couple swings but to actually embed the change takes time and repetition. The difference between a tour pro making a change and a club player is probably the fact that tour player owns the change/drill before he or she moves on.

I don’t want to pick on anyone really but we’ve almost been programmed to believe that we can make significant changes in bugger all time. The magazines show it, YouTube, and infomercials all have these miracle cures for us. If we were to pay attention to all of them we would be a quivering mess of golf anxiety.

Use the time with your coach wisely then own the drills they give you. If you own these, the changes/upgrades to your golf swing become automatic. Quick + Fix = Shit.
