M****D – the dirtiest word in golf coaching

As if some Big Brother and his cult of personality has taken over, method has become a naughty word in the realms of golf coaching. The Golfing Machine, MORAD, Stack and Tilt, the Rotary Swing, Jim Venetos, the Right Sided Swing, swing the clubhead, swing the handle, TPI; fark it goes on.

There are many methods to teach this game. Actually, there are many methods to teaching the golf swing – how you play the game is different. What I think this boils down to is the the professional’s personal preferences boiled down to a particular recipe to help golfers swing better. If each pro was being honest they would tell you they have particular preferences for their coaching – even if the preferences differ from golfer to golfer.

So, why the discrimination against method teachers/coaches?

Pure, unadulterated jealousy and one-up-man-ship. Stack and Tilt had some success and the haters came thick and fast. Especially after Aaron Baddeley collapsed in the final round of the US Open. Must be the swing! Never mind the fact he’s chewing his own face off with nerves at the hardest tournament all year at Oakmont, one of the hardest courses in the world. I’m no Stack and Tilt guy but the fact is Andy and Mike have made the game more enjoyable and easier via their method.

Some coaches have argued and threatened and even offered to fight one another over who is right. Let me give you the tip boys, the right one is the coach who makes the player better. Big Brother and your method hating rhetoric – fuck off.
