Consistency is a funny thing. We all want it in our golf but can we actually define it? Is it a consistent score? Is it a consistent strike? Is it a consistent mindset? I would contend, Unless your name is Scottie Scheffler that any of those isn’t happening.
So, where does one start?
We have to know what’s up. We have to know our swing will produce a particular result on a flat lie, in the fairway or on a tee. This is what I call the baseline swing. If we know what this is, then we can apply slightly different patterns to suit the shot. Because, let’s be honest, you really only get 18 perfect lies a round.
This is part of my system and this first part of the curriculum. It’s also the one that requires the most work. What I like to see is that a golf swing with no other negative influence will produce a straight to slightly curved shot. Big hooks or slices are yuck. It matters not how far you hit them in the beginning, just that we are producing a baseline golf swing and ball flight. We can add momentum as we go to ramp up the speed.
Some folks will be happy with just that. But others will want to get into shot making. This is a bit like learning to crawl before you walk. However, the mechanics of this need not be difficult. My system is designed to be very easy to perform.
Let’s develop your baseline, full swings and short ones too, so that you can start playing more consistently 😉 That is to say you have a more consistently straight and predictable ball flight.
