In the world of professional golf, 1 shot makes the difference. One measly little shot. It might be a tap-in or a chip. One bloody shot.
Take the LPGA Tour last year, for example. Lilia Vu topped the money list with about $3,500,000. That’s a lot of wedge. 100th place was occupied by Thai golfer, Pornanong Phatlum who earned about $190,000. That’s a fine income in many books but a difference of $3,310,000. Do you know what the difference in their putts per green was?
1.07.
Lilia had an average of 29.42 putts per round of golf. Pornanong had 30.49. Over the season.
I’m not naively suggesting that this was the only reason. There are many factors as to why players have a good year or a bad year. But, this stat highlights the importance of not throwing shots away.
Luckily, you and I don’t play for that amount of money. I can just feel my legs turning to pillars of molten gelatin. We can, however, get 1 shot better in all areas. I less putt a round. One more fairway. One more green in regulation. One less bogey. We can do it and we will see the change in our handicaps.

On another note – I’m gauging interest for some more ladies beginner clinics starting 25th of February (Sunday). If you would like to join or have someone in mind -send them my way :).
