In the world of playing really good golf there is one common thread. Predictability. Almost all the professionals playing around the world have a predictable ball flight. That is to say it goes low or high. The ball can go left or right. The great players know this is going to happen and where the ball will start.

That last little piece above – where the ball will start – is the glue to this. It’s all very well knowing you have a fade but if you don’t know where the ball is going to start then you are just guessing.

You’ll see above how the coach has got a stick on the ground on the ball-target line. NOT on the foot line. This is where the ball starts (or should). You can do this easily too. Take an iron or alignment stick and lay it out where you want the ball to start allowing for your curve. Knowing where your ball will start and how it will curve is basically it. Pros like Monty, Alex Noren, Dustin Johnson, Jack Nicklaus all hit fades. They eliminated the left side of the course. They know/knew this before they began. Greg Norman, Tom Lehman, Davis Love III and many others hit draws. They knew it was going to happen and played the game to suit.

Yes, many pros can hit it both ways, high, low and in between. These shots are only really used if they absolutely have to be. The rest of the time is boring predictable golf. Beautiful.
