Last night I had the first of my summer clinics with new golfers. Some had, had coaching before, others hadn’t. What was all common was the apprehension each player had.
Apprehension at what? Can I do it? Can I hit the ball? What if I make a fool of myself? Hard to say really.
What we do know is that breaking the golf coaching sessions down into chunks and making those chunks as simple as possible, works. It works for the player to relieve the tension and it helps them see success.
First is the grip. Making sure the club is secure in the hands. Then the stance. Then the basic swing. Skills built one on the last. Never complicated.
I think we golfers that have played a while could use this mentality when it comes to practicing our own games. Small manageable chunks in their most simple form. Perhaps it’s just too much for my aged brain.
Check out this from the boys at Easiest Swing, love their work.
