In short – why the fuck not!?
Lexi Thompson played the Shriners over the past week. She missed the cut but had 69 in the second round. A full length PGA Tour course. That’s no small feat.
I saw a tweet a while back by some ill-informed 4 handicapper that he could beat the LPGA Tour players like a drum. Let me assure you – he would be the drum. These women can flat out play. It’s frightening how good they are. Overall they don’t hit the ball as far as the big fullas but man they are good.
The DP World Tour has a mixed event in Scandinavia which is hugely popular. Personally, I’d love to see more of those events.
Many moons ago, I caddied at the NZ Open for a likeable American pro called Beth Allen. Beth, Anya Alvarez and Lydia Ko were the final group on Sunday. The golf was magnificent. Beautiful ball striking and short game prowess. Any 4 handicapper that thinks he has a shot against these tour pros is kidding himself.
The game has changed – there are more tours and more players. There’s more tech and wider reach. Why not have a mixed tour? Or at least events? The Aussies make a great case for it in the Summer with the Oz Open et al being ladies and men. Golf is game for all people. Long short, young and old. Watching Nasa Hataoka tee it up with Rory McIlroy? Sign me up.
Anyway, go the All Blacks! I’ll leave you with this from Max Homa on the Sundae Conversation:
