The golf equipment world is undoubtedly dominated by marketing giants TaylorMade and Callaway. These two companies seem to battle each other for the best driver and coolest equipment launches, blah, blah, blah.
Brooks Koepka, Sepp Straka, Hideki Matsuyama, and others are using a brand that doesn’t get a lot of airtime here in New Zealand or worldwide: Srixon. Srixon, a Japanese company that owns Cleveland Golf and Dunlop Sports, has primarily focused on golf balls but has also become a player in the club market. Brooks, of course, won the PGA Championship with a set of ZX7 irons in the bag. Sepp Straka won this past weekend at the John Deere with a set of ZX7 irons, and Keegan Bradley won two weeks back with a set of ZX7 irons.
Should we be trying these out for performance? Abso-fucking-lutely. They quite obviously measure up to the big brands and endure the abuse tour players put them through. They offer tour models but also have a range that look very sleek and caters to all ball-striking abilities. Check out the Utility, ZX4, ZX5, and Z Forged for you blade lovers too. I would love to see them take on the big guys and promote the bejeezus out of this brand because it performs and gives us mortals more choices.
Srixon, if you’re listening, let’s see it in more shops!!!
PS – I am in no way affiliated with Srixon, Cleveland Golf, Dunlop, or Asics. This is not an advertisement. I am, however, open to free stuff.
