Learning the golf swing and golf, one learns the physical movements which change the internal. Having gained the internal, the external is manifest.
Sounds complicated and a bit out there for me but it is true. When you begin learning to play and swing you are better off with technical knowledge and constraints to form your habits. As you go the swing becomes incidental and so does the clubhead making contact with the ball. The way the clubhead makes contact is what we work on until, well, we die.
Once the swing has become somewhat incidental the internal process knows you can do it and you’re ready for the next step. Going from hitting a big old slice to a tight draw probably won’t happen straight away but we can build towards that and the process will become increasingly shorter in time.
Of course, should you work on the wrong things – you can perfect those too. Be careful what you learn and be patient. It’ll come to you.
