Wyndham Clark wins the US Open fighting off Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler amongst others, in a cool display of calmness.
Wyndham Clark sounds like an accounting firm! However, with a name like Dan Lunn I shouldn’t be calling kettles black or throwing stones.
What a funny US Open it was. It seemed devoid of atmosphere. The course was littered with lengthy par 3s. The Bermuda rough was hay-like. Rickie Fowler came right. Rory was in contention right to the end. and Mr Clark played like he already had a few majors under his belt. There were two 62s and a 63.
The LIV thing was distracting by the broadcaster’s reluctance to show any of the players. Seems petty. Us fans just want to see some good golf.
What we shouldn’t forget is that a US Open is a vicious test of golf. Even to get in is a massive achievement. Picture this; the last 3 holes at LA Country Club totaled more than 1500 yards and had a combined par of 12. That’s three par 4s over 500 yards to finish a golf tournament.
Congratulations to WC on his win – that boy can hit it. I’m looking forward now, to the Open at Hoylake where I think Mr McIlroy may just come right.
