It’s that time again. US Open. The course looks hard and fast, the rough thick and the course long.
So, it’ll be a battle of the form golfers again. I can’t see an unknown winning though strange things can happen in this tournament. Remember Steve Jones? No? 1996 at Oakland Hills, a tournament Tom Lehman probably should’ve won. He probably should’ve won in ’97 too but for a slightly pulled 5 iron.
It’ll be hard to bet against Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland, Justin Thomas and the like. Tyrrell Hatton might be worth a look…he loves the hard courses and hits it plenty high. Tommy Fleetwood, maybe. Matt Fitzpatrick will be full of confidence after winning last year on a brute. Or, will we see a last man standing affair like when Geoff Ogilvy won in ’06. Monty and Phil butchered the last hole and Geoff calmly mad his par and took home his biggest trophy.
I can’t see it this year for an unknown to win, I’m going to go safe and say that Hovland wins with Koepka and Rahm chasing. Who have you got to win?
Can’t wait!
