What sets the elite players apart from your average Saturday player? By elite player I mean anyone who gets to about a three handicap or less. So….what is it?
Swing – yeah partly.
Clubs – hmmm partly.
Practice time – yeah.
No Injuries – yep.
All of that combines to give elite players Golf Intelligence. Golf intelligence isn’t about being able to solve complex calculus on the fly. I’ve met tour pros whose hats wouldn’t fall off if their brains were dynamite.
Golf Intelligence is a skill unto itself where a player plays a shot dependent on the conditions, ability, clubs, fitness and pressure. Bad players lack this skill. Good players have developed it. It comes with experience.
Many people in the self-help world say that to improve oneself you should be the dumbest person in the room. If you can, be the worst player in your foursome ie play with better players. You’ll absorb their knowledge and skill, and you can always ask what they were thinking. You want to get better? Get Golf Brainy.
