Lesson 3 – Natural Movement

You are different to me. Actually, what I’ve found is that I’m definitely different!! Jokes aside, we are all different and feel things differently too. Our bodies do things differently. You are different to me. Actually, what I’ve found is that I’m definitely different!!

Jokes aside, we are all different and feel things differently too. Our bodies do things differently. Our swings, as a result, are all as different as fingerprints. Did you know koalas have fingerprints? Well, they do.

As a coach/PGA pro/teacher whatever, it’s my job to hand you the tools and guide you to the feelings that produce better golf. One drill I really like doing is getting the player to just swing the bat back and forth as we’re shooting the shit (talking). Just back and through – this is as natural as it gets. Your body isn’t forcing it and you don’t even know you’re doing a drill.

Another favourite is the old Henry Cotton drill of impacting a tyre. An old trye or impact bag or cat (kidding) is perfect. Just swing back gently and into the bag/tyre to feel what impact is like. This drill is remarkable because your body almost won’t let you hit the object badly. Your mind will direct your body to the points it needs to be in to facilitate a perfect impact so that it doesn’t hurt you. DON”T DO THIS HARD CORE YET!!! And, please don’t do it with a graphite shafted club!!

The thing is, we must use YOUR body to move the bat in the most natural way for YOU. This will create better shots, longer shots and less stress on the body. Let’s not use Adam Scott as the high water mark for swings – his swing is pure but that’s the way his body moves.
