The PGA Championship is the fourth Major and a representation of the PGA of America’s biggest championship. This year you could be forgiven for thinking it’s a LIV v PGA Tour slugfest.
Fuck off.
Oak Hill is a course in New York founded in 1901. Hard to imagine that a course designed way back then is still relevant. Mind you I think that’s probably the case with quite a lot in golf despite what equipment manufacturers would tell you. It’s one of those old school American tracks with thick rough and fast greens. A course where par is a good score.
The last two winners there for majors are Shaun Micheel and Jason Dufner. Not necessarily massive off the tee, but accurate ball strikers. Add that to the other winners, Lee Trevino, Jack Nicklaus, Miller Barber and Curtis Strange we could assume that someone in charge of the flight of his ball will win this week. You might think that they all are, I can assure you they’re not. Big dastardly bombers may not have an advantage this week, though a little length will help.
Jason Day and Adam Scott have been playing well in the last few weeks and can control their collective balls. Brooks Koepka seems to play well in any major. Cam Smith with his putting majesty should be good. Justin Thomas, Jordan Speith, Max Homa, Cam Young and Scotty Scheffler will all have a good shot. I guess the question is – does Rory have it in him to overcome the drought and win another? I think so and hope he does. The wee bugger can mash it and is fun to watch.
Who’s your pick?
